- T9 L6 j$ a3 y/ H! Udublin-based practice architecture republic has recently completed 'formwork', an artist's studio located next to an established
4 E+ ?: k' Q% A5 K% }5 C! E* }residence in dublin, ireland. the nature of the client's artwork required an open area and the ability to view from an overhead + e4 s  a; O6 Q/ }1 y5 \6 i+ x
perspective. a garden buffer marks a distinction between the public passage leading to the private workshop. the footprint of
! F& w! I8 A% y! z4 b1 C$ s+ e# Cthe 5 meter by 5 meter structure is situated between and bounded by the plot's extents.

, ?  F0 _" s2 v+ Y2 o# P7 {the finished floor elevation has been recessed 750mm, approximately the height of a desk surface. the artist lays canvases on
" y3 T/ V* q  p7 Z: cthe ground and may view the progress of work from a perimeter path placed at 'ground level'. while standing upon the poured % S& h* `) U) m3 `# C
in place concrete ledge, the ceiling is 2.4 meters high and rises to 3.15 meters upon descending into the center of the room.
, P6 l& H7 n! B' K  v: ^& d5 nthe monolithic ribbon element bends to form the entry staircase, raised work surface and daybed. the polished finish contrasts
: E4 i: d. b# {" N1 z9 F% Lthe uniform texture of the board-marked floor to roof concrete walls. 2 t. p3 b: u* H) u- l0 k+ h
$ z: ]3 S1 P, k" x
two strip skylights oriented on a north-south axis introduce the shifting lighting conditions throughout the day. horizontal bands
+ P0 u" u4 y! H3 r2 F* V7 y* Dof windows at the base of the enclosure provide views of the surrounding landscape from a seated position while the expansive # A0 e, i0 X0 c7 ?
and continuous area above is used to exhibit large artworks.7 ]. ?: r2 @: a& I- ~/ O8 p
