( C- Q; @2 t. G: L0 xdublin-based practice architecture republic has recently completed 'formwork', an artist's studio located next to an established 9 G% j- \9 ^" ?! @
residence in dublin, ireland. the nature of the client's artwork required an open area and the ability to view from an overhead ; O1 C0 G2 @' T6 N
perspective. a garden buffer marks a distinction between the public passage leading to the private workshop. the footprint of
: i; ^& K& N* T% x5 ^# Z4 Fthe 5 meter by 5 meter structure is situated between and bounded by the plot's extents.

8 j1 h  ~) b, l2 u7 h; Lthe finished floor elevation has been recessed 750mm, approximately the height of a desk surface. the artist lays canvases on
$ ?" l3 a& x7 G" `! U. Sthe ground and may view the progress of work from a perimeter path placed at 'ground level'. while standing upon the poured   @. f* \/ ^2 j) N
in place concrete ledge, the ceiling is 2.4 meters high and rises to 3.15 meters upon descending into the center of the room.
2 ]) c, t1 b2 N7 Hthe monolithic ribbon element bends to form the entry staircase, raised work surface and daybed. the polished finish contrasts 9 K9 a% h* g, r2 u$ S' ~+ ]
the uniform texture of the board-marked floor to roof concrete walls. % d2 ?: s  M# l$ O3 j* _
* a4 R9 X! Q# N6 ?
two strip skylights oriented on a north-south axis introduce the shifting lighting conditions throughout the day. horizontal bands . L3 s! a2 O8 ]* l; B' o2 ?( p% W
of windows at the base of the enclosure provide views of the surrounding landscape from a seated position while the expansive
# M, h2 u; T! {* Jand continuous area above is used to exhibit large artworks.
